PTPA IS AN IMPORTANT STATION RESOURCE

A station that belongs to PTPA has a programmer that performs with a safety net. PTPA members have access to:

  • A range of insightful research from TRAC Media and others about programming and fundraising effectiveness
PTPA members have access to valuable TRAC research in programming and fundraising via meeting presentations. Researchers from PBS, CPB and major stations are also regular PTPA meeting participants.
  • Monthly Programming Strategies calls to discuss upcoming schedules and brainstorm effective solutions to local problems or opportunities
Members have access to one of two calls each month, with the number of participants limited to ensure that each programmer has opportunity to ask questions or offer opinions.
  • Member rates for two annual PTPA meetings that help programmers stay ahead of the curve in an industry changing at warp speed
To stretch travel budgets, PTPA meetings are presented just prior to the PBS Annual Meeting in the Spring and another public television conference in the Fall. PTPA also has a voice on the PBS Programming Advisory Council (PAC) to ensure that topics on the agenda reflect members’ current concerns.
  • Monthly online newsletters
PTPA distributes a monthly “Schedule Assistant” and notes on the MPS calls, and provides comprehensive reports on all meetings with a major programming component for those members with restricted travel budgets – or those who would rather actively participate than take notes.
  • Opportunities to serve on the PTPA BoardPTPA elects Board members to represent the programming community, and Board members are commonly asked to serve on other national committees and task forces. These opportunities provide a programming voice beyond the confines of the station and the programming community and provides a programming perspective to other aspects of our industry.

IT’S A BARGAIN

PTPA membership dues are a bargain compared with other associations in our industry. Based on total market size, fees are as follows:

1-15 $918
16-50 $524
51-100 $466
101 + (and producers/station relations) $284

Membership is assessed by station. The payment of one membership fee allows an unlimited number of station staff to participate in PTPA activities (one person is designated as the voting representative).

IT’S A CRUCIAL RESOURCE

In person at on-site meetings, on MPS Schedule conference calls, and on-line with PTPA website, PTPA gives members a programming edge.

The industry is becoming increasingly complex. Pooling professional resources and experience gives programmers greatly expanded tools with which to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead. You can’t do it alone, but we can do it together.

PTPA is a crucial resource that provides a classroom for new programming professionals, where they can acquire and absorb decades of information and experience from seasoned programmers. It provides a medium for experienced programmers to test their perceptions, to learn new skills and to prepare for the digital future — which will continue to make demands on all of us. With PTPA behind your station, you have access to all the great programming minds in the business.

One hundred licensees agree. Don’t be left out. This may be the year PTPA is needed most. (And, this may be the year you need PTPA most.)
